My dad had his heart set on eating at Casa Verde for Sunday lunch. Being the foodie that I am, I am embarrassed to admit that I have never heard of Casa Verde. It turns out that the restaurant originated in Cebu, at the actual house of the owners. Later on, because of its success, they were able to set up a branch at Ayala Center Cebu. It has become a well-known restaurant, and the line just to get in is famously long.
After some time though, a branch in Manila finally opened! Naturally, all the people and friends of the people who have eaten at Casa Verde in Cebu, were very happy with this news. Case Verde is located at the UP Town Center, and I am not really sure when it opened exactly.
Anyway, so we arrived at the UP Town Center by 12:30 noon–peak time. We were listed as number 17. We assumed it would take at least 30 minutes to an hour before our turn so we walked around the mall first.
While we were going around, Papa decided to go back to Case Verde and just wait there. After a few minutes, we joined him. That’s when we found out that we were back at number 17! Why? Well apparently, they call the next three names every now and then, and if you’re not there, well, sorry, you have to get listed again. So we waited, and waited—and waited.
And waited.
We were finally called at around 2:00 PM. Because of the overwhelming number of people inside, the place was really hot, sticky, and there was almost no room to move around. Well, I thought, if a lot of people stuck around in line to eat at this hot restaurant, the food damn well better be good.
So we ordered Brian’s Bucket of Ribs. The bucket is as big as KFC’s bucket meal, but instead of chicken, there are FIVE—yes, five!—slabs of juicy, tender ribs! As in the meat was sliding off the bones. YUM! For only PhP 888, you get these ribs plus a platter of rice, a bowl of corn and carrots, and a pitcher of iced tea.
There’s something you should know about our family—we love to eat. So of course we thought this wasn’t enough so we also ordered the Mighty Ton, which is also PhP 888.
The Mighty Ton is a huge burger cut into six slices. It also comes with a handful of fries. For you to understand how big it is, here’s a photo of the burger with my dad.
The burger itself was juicy and tasty. I only wish they had a huge knife to help with slicing the burger into smaller pieces. I couldn’t even finish one slice!
We were only able to eat three slices of the burger, and three slabs of ribs—one for Papa, one shared by Mumsy and Bea, and one I shared with Jayjay. So we took home half a pizza burger, and 2 slabs of juicy and tender ribs.
Needless to say, we were so full. But of course there’s always, always room for dessert from Cold Stone. So yay for that.
We skipped dinner. We HAD to.
Enough food for the day.
(Casa Verde also has another restaurant in Metro Manila with a similar menu and it is less crowded. It is called The Porch by Case Verde and is located at 113 Anonas Extension, Sikatuna Village, Quezon City, Masunurin, Diliman, Quezon City, Metro Manila.)
